The Best Ways to Deep Clean Your Kitchen Appliances

How do you know that your kitchen is REALLY clean? Whether you’re surface cleaning or “spring cleaning”, there’s a good chance that you may have forgotten to clean your cleaning machines. Let me show you how to deep clean your kitchen and all those hidden and hard-to-reach places!

My kitchen is tired. The dishwasher, garbage disposal, microwave, oven and cooktop are tired. I know this because I am tired and even more tired of using each of these appliances day in and day out. However, I have never been more thankful to have these in our kitchen than I have over the last 7 weeks that we have been in quarantine.

What about you?

I think this meme describes it best:

Plus, with all the use my kitchen appliances are getting, the grungier and stinkier they get. I try to wipe them down when I can but I know that I’m only getting them surface clean. That’s why I decided that we needed to do a thorough spring clean to get our appliances back to tip top shape.

This is where Glisten products by Summit Brands steps in. I was fortunate enough to be gifted a variety of Glisten Products so Brent and I put these to the test this weekend.

How to Deep Clean Your Garbage Disposal

Exhibit 1: Our sink

Dirty Sink - Deep Clean Garbage Disposal

In the words of Ellie, “Was the sink that disgusting or did you have to make it look like that?” Um, nope. Just that disgusting!

I use the garbage disposal multiple times a day and have only ever freshened it by grinding up citrus peels and running fresh water through it. However, it tends to have a smell within a few hours of this “trick.”

After cleaning out the sink, I ran a package of Glisten Disposer Care Foaming Cleaner through. I knew it was working to clean the grime and grunge when I saw the blue foam bubble up. This product is recommended once a week so I’ll be stocking up to help keep the grunge and stinky buildup at bay.

Next, we unloaded the dishwasher and pulled out the racks to see what was going on/growing inside. Pretty gross. Since this was the first clean of its kind, I used the once monthly Glisten Dishwasher Cleaner to disinfect, clean and remove buildup that may be caused by food residue and other dishwasher detergent. The results were amazing!

Now that we’ve done the big monthly clean, I’ll be maintaining the dishwasher weekly with Glisten Dishwasher Cleaner and Freshener tabs. And to keep hard water spots and stains off the dishes and glassware, sprinkling Glisten Dishwasher Detergent Booster & Freshener into the basin of the dishwasher is a must.

Finally, the Glisten Cooktop & Kitchen Cleaning Pads are now a must in our kitchen. They work double duty – one side has a gentle abrasive surface to help break up grease and cooked/baked on food. The other side is a soft side to work as a buffer. I love using these to clean my microwave and sink.
